Distinguished Young Woman 2016
On February 20, 2016, associate Lauren Walker will help to select Ohio’s Distinguished Young Woman 2016. An Ohio native, Lauren represented her state in the program in 2008 (formerly Ohio’s Junior Miss) and will judge this year’s 58th annual program. America’s Distinguished Young Women is a scholarship program for high school senior girls. Each state sends a representative to Mobile, Alabama every year to compete in the national program. The program provides an opportunity for the young women across the country to gain interview skills, public speaking experience, and self-confidence, as well as make lifelong friendships. Each year, the program makes over $820 million in scholarships available to its participants as a result of sponsorships, donations, and university participation.
Jason Klinowski Becomes Firm Member
Jason R. Klinowski has become a Member of the firm. He practices in the areas of food and agricultural law, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation, and is the Editor of The Fresh Facts Blog.

2015 Shakespeare Event

Jason R. Klinowski has joined the firm as Counsel. He is an agricultural and food law attorney, advising clients on a full-range of business and legal issues, including USDA and FDA regulatory compliance, supply chain and distribution transactions, and federal litigation. Jason is the editor of The Fresh Facts Blog, which provides legal and business insights to the fresh produce industry, and is a frequent speaker at various food industry events.
Jonathan L. Shugart has joined the firm as an Associate. His practice will be in the areas of business law, commercial transactions, estate planning, non-profit organizations, and estate administration. He received his L.L.M. in Taxation from The University of Florida, Gainesville, and his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law.
Richard T. Davis has joined the firm as Counsel. Rick practices Sports Law. He has represented college and professional football and basketball coaches for more than 25 years. His clients include head coaches, coordinators and assistant coaches all over the country. He advises them on career moves and handles all aspects of his clients' employment and endorsement agreements.
Clark R. Hammond has joined the firm as a Member. He has been practicing law since 1989, primarily in the area of bankruptcy, commercial and real estate loan defaults and workouts, construction law, workout of defaulted municipal and commercial bonds, creditor’s and debtor’s rights, securities litigation and general commercial litigation. Alabama Employment Update
Michael L. Jackson is speaking to the Alabama Utility Contractors Association in Mobile, Huntsville, and Birmingham in January 2013 on issues for employers presented by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. On May 18, 2012, Governor Bentley signed Ala. Act No. 2012-491, which is an amendment to the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act, also known as Alabama’s immigration law. There were no changes to the primary employment-related provision – Section 15 – so all employers are still required to be enrolled in E-Verify and to run through E-Verify all new hires. Susan E. McPherson has rejoined the firm as an Associate. She graduated magna cum laude from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and joined the firm as an Associate in 2003. Most recently, she was a staff attorney for Justice Champ Lyons with the Supreme Court of Alabama. McPherson practices in the area of appellate litigation.
